Angel Emoji is a solo project by Angel Prost, an artist living in New York City. She has just released ‘Play and Wonder’ (EP) in late August 2021. She is also active in music as Frost Children with Lulu Frost.

What are the themes you are exploring through making music?
A
Love, dysphoria, nostalgia, connection to nature.

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through ‘Play & Wonder’(EP)?
A
The phrase ‘play and wonder’ has been circling in my head for about a year, I just think it’s what’s at the heart of everything good in the world. Life is about play and I feel most at home in making music or performing when a sense of play and wonder is inherent to the process, and when the sense of wonderment is lost and things become too overtly intentional and thought out, I start to lose interest. This EP is a collection of songs from the past year that included a constant state of play, never taking a track too seriously, and never staying within the confines of one sound.

Why did you choose Angel Emoji as your solo project’s name?
A
My first name is Angel and I think the angel emoji is so cute 🙂

Who inspires you?
A
Gary Wilson, Laraaji, Death, Skrillex, S3RL, Daniel Johnston, Genesis P-orridge, Gerard Way. And Hakushi Hasegawa, a Japanese composer and producer I’ve really been loving.

What is it that you want to express through your private outfits?
A
Gender is dead.

A
愛、不快な気分、ノスタルジア、自然とのつながり。

‘Play & Wonder’（EP）を通して、リスナーに一番伝えたいことは何ですか？
A
‘Play & Wonder’という言葉は、1年ほど前から私の頭の中をぐるぐる回っていて、世の中の良いものすべての中心にあるものだと思っている。人生とは遊びであり、音楽を作ったり、パフォーマンスをしたりする際には、遊び心や不思議な感覚がプロセスに内在している時に最も落ち着く。けれど、不思議な感覚が失われ、物事があからさまに意図的で考え抜かれたものになると、私は興味を失い始める。このEPは、常に遊び心を忘れず、曲を真剣に考えすぎず、ひとサウンドの枠に収まることなく制作した、この1年間の曲を集めたものなんだ。

ソロプロジェクトの名前にAngel Emojiを選んだ理由とは？
A
私のファーストネームがAngelであることと、天使の絵文字がとてもかわいいと思ったから 🙂

A
Gary Wilson、Laraaji、Death、Skrillex、S3RL、Daniel Johnston、Genesis P-orridge、Gerard Way。そして、最近とても気に入っている日本の作曲家兼プロデューサーのHakushi Hasegawaだね。
