Haruka Hatakeyama is a hairstylist from Tokyo, Japan. He attracts attention not only from Japan but also from abroad by transmitting culture through his hairstyles.
He also has many fans for his own fashion, DJ activities, and lifestyle. He is currently working at Whyte, a hair salon in Harajuku.

Would you tell us what hairstyles you recommend for men and women this fall?
A
In recent years, both men’s and women’s styles have been attracting attention for their ennui and atmosphere oriented styles. However, it seems that we are gradually shifting to a more design-oriented style.
Q
What is your hair style obsession? And how do you take care of your hair?
A
I’ve done a lot of different kinds of hair in the past, but right now I’m enjoying longer lengths! Since my hair is high-toned, drying it before bed is a must, and I make sure to take care of it with oils and treatments.
Q
What are some tips on how to wear rock tees in a great way?
A
Basically, my policy is that I only buy and wear t-shirts of my favorite artists! I also wear them based on my understanding of the artist’s taste and backbone, and how I would style them.

What are your three favorite albums and why?
A
‘THE DRUMS’ BY THE DRUMS
The album has a sense of speed throughout, which makes it comfortable to listen to. In the such pleasant melodies, you can sense from ‘Best Friend’ that they are not just optimistic.
‘PSYCHO TROPICAL BERLIN’ BY LA FEMME
Psychedelic, surf, new wave, post punk, etc., this album makes me feel that it is really nonsense to put La Femme in one genre. I can feel their outstanding sense in melodies. My favorite track is ‘Antitaxi’.
‘SUN STRUCTURES’ BY TEMPLES
I remember this album when the weather is humid, hot, and suffocatingly hard. I especially like ‘Mesmerise’.

What are some tips on how to wear grunge fashion in a great way?
A
When I was 20 years old, my fashion icon was Kurt Cobain, so I used to dress like a cosplayer. But halfway through, I realized that fashion is not about that. After that, I started thinking about how to create a sense of freedom, and what kind of outfits would suit my body type and atmosphere. In this way, I began to choose clothes that were uniquely my own.

A
ここ近年メンズもレディースもアンニュイなスタイルや、雰囲気重視のスタイルが注目を集めていました。しかしながら、少しずつデザイン性の高いスタイルにシフトしていきそうです。

ヘアスタイルのこだわりと、普段どのようにケアされているかを教えてください。
A
いろいろなヘアをしてきましたが、今は長めのレングスを楽しんでいます！ ハイトーンなので、寝る前のドライは必須で、オイルやトリートメントなどのケアも欠かさずしています。

ロックTシャツを素敵に着こなすためのコツとは？A
基本的に好きなアーティストのTシャツしか買わないし、着ないことがマイルールです！ また、そのアーティストのテイストやバックボーンを把握した上で、どんなスタイリングをするかを考えて着こなしています。

A
‘THE DRUMS’ BY THE DRUMS
アルバムを通して疾走感があり、聴いていて心地良くなれるアルバムだと思います。そんな気持ち良いメロディーの中で、彼らがただ楽天的ではないということが‘Best Friend’から感じられます。
‘PSYCHO TROPICAL BERLIN’ BY LA FEMME
サイケ、サーフ、ニューウェーブ、ポストパンクなど、彼らをひとつのジャンルとしてまとめるのは、ナンセンスだなと感じさせるアルバム。メロディからずば抜けたセンスを感じます。特に好きな曲は‘Antitaxi’。
‘SUN STRUCTURES’ BY TEMPLES
湿度を感じ、暑くて息苦しさがあってしんどいなぁってくらいの気候の頃に、この作品を思い出します。中でも‘Mesmerise’が好きです。

グランジファッションを素敵に着こなすコツとは？
A
20歳の頃は、ファッションアイコンがKurt Cobainだったので、コスプレに近い格好をしていました。けれど、途中で「ファッションってそういうことじゃないよな」と気づいたんです。それから、どう抜け感を出すのか、自分の体型や雰囲気にはどんな着こなしが合うのかを考えて、自分のスタイリングするようになりました。
