♪PROFILE♪

Formed in 2019, they are a 5 piece band living and working together in Brixton, London. They debuted in the same year with the single ‘Exotic Fruit’. Their music is characterized by a sound influenced by 60’s and 70’s psychedelic rock, bossa nova, funk, and garage rock. They are currently recording a new works.

2019年に結成、ロンドンのブリクトンにて共同生活をしながら、楽曲を制作している５ピースバンド。同年、シングル ‘Exotic Fruit’にてデビュー。60年代と70年代のサイケデリックロック、ボサノヴァ、ファンク、ガレージロックの影響を受けたサウンドが特徴である。現在は新作のレコーディングを行っている。

♪INTRODUCTION♪

Danny, the bassist of Baby Vanga, was in Japan from December in 2020 to the beginning of March in 2021 for a modeling job. Since Danny knew about Sei Library and we had a mutual friend (Harry from The Goddams), we met privately at the end of February.

We met at HMV record shop in Shibuya and had conversation at a coffee shop above it. As it turned out, it was the same course I took when I met Rexx* from California in 2015. Then Danny and I went for a walk around Yoyogi Park. It was still February, but the sun was warm with a hint of spring. He spoke in detail about his bandmates’ life together in London, the band’s songwriting method, and the photo session with Hedi Slimane.

*Rexx is a model for Saint Laurent Paris Men’s Spring/Summer 2014 Campaign. He was wearing a jacket with embroidery of ‘Blood Luster’ illustrated by Luke Thomas.

He also showed me a new song by Baby Vanga that they are currently working on. It’s a psychedelic and euphoric song, and I think it’s one of the rare ones in the current London scene.

This time, I would like to show you Danny’s private fashion, inspired by 70’s rock music.

Baby VangaのベーシストDannyが、モデルの仕事のため2020年12月から2021年3月の頭まで来日していた。東京では広告や雑誌など多くの仕事を行っていたようだ。彼がSei Libraryを知っていてくれていたことと、我々に共通の友人（The GoddamsのHarry）がいたこともあって、2月末にプライベートで会うことができた。

HMV record shop渋谷で集合し、その上にある喫茶店でコーヒーを飲みながら会話を楽しんだ。あくまで結果的にではあるが、2015年にカリフォルニア出身のRexx*と私が会った際と同じコースだった。そして、代々木公園をぐるりと散歩してきた。まだ2月ではあったが、日差しは春の気配を含み、暖かかった。Dannyはロンドンでのバンドメイトとの共同生活や、バンドの作曲方法、Hedi Slimaneとのフォトセッションについてこと細かく語ってくれた。そして、現在制作中だというBaby Vangaの新曲も聴かせてくれた。サイケデリックで陶酔的な楽曲であり、今のロンドンシーンでは珍しい部類に入ると思う。

*RexxはSaint Laurent Paris Men’s Spring/Summer 2014キャンペーンのモデル。彼はLuke Thomasによって描かれた、Blood Lusterが刺しゅうされたジャケットを着ていた。

今回は70年代のロックからインスパイアされたという、Dannyのプライベートファッションをお楽しみいただきたい。
