この作品で一番伝えたいことはどんなことですか？
A
この曲を通して、僕らはみんなに、自分達のコントロールを超えることが生活に起こることがたくさんあることを知ってもらいたかったんだ。人生はゲーム。ゲームをプレイして、リラックスしてほしい。人生は夢でもある。

Hediとはどのように出会いましたか？
また彼のリクエストはなんでしたか？
A
Hediは南カリフォルニアで行われたBurgerama festivalで僕らが演奏するのを見てくれて。それで彼は僕らにアプローチしてくれて、彼の次のコレクションのためのサーフソングを書くよう頼んでくれたんだ。しかも、曲は少なくとも15分の長さがなくてはならなかった。

そのために、どんな点にこだわっていますか？
音楽、歌詞、アートワークの観点から教えてください。
A
僕らはこの曲を１週間で書き上げて、６時間でレコーディングした。僕らもどうして僕らがそんなに早くできたのかわからないくらいだよ。というのもたいてい曲を書くとき、それを書くのにどれくらいの速さがかかるのかはコントロールできないから。僕らはラッキーだったよ。
一番大変だったのは、この曲がリスナーに15分もの間退屈させないように、ラウドでハイエナジーな状態が続くようにすることだったね。

この曲は偉大な俳優 Harry Dean Stantonの哲学に影響を受けた。

ファッションのテーマは何ですか？
A
僕らのファッションはコンスタントに変わっている。でもいまは、何もかもがヘアのまわりで動いている。髪の色はたいていグリーンやブルー、もしくはパープルだね。あと、おっきいシャツを、タイトなブラックジーンズや薄色の501のリーバイスにタックインすることから始まってて。それって、北と南カリフォルニアのスタイルの組み合わせでもあって、そんなにみんながやっているものではないんだ。（だから、その着こなしに）誇りに感じているよ。
Hediは僕らのヘアを気に入ってくれて。僕はブルーの髪。（このヘアの始まりは）オーストラリアにいたとき、コールと僕は髪をランダムに染めたとき、（それから）続けているんだよ。というのも、みんながそのヘアを好きになってくれたし、（髪のおかげてみんなが）僕らを見つける目印になるからね。

A
正直にいってとっても非現実的だったよ。曲を書くときは、たくさんの感情をこめることを要求されるんだ。（今回のショーのように）大きいことが起こるときには特にね。
エディはすごい。彼こそ真のアーティストであり、本当に貴重な存在だよ。

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through this song?
A
Through this song, we want people to know that a lot of things that happen in our lives are beyond our control. Life is a game. Play the game and relax. Life is but a dream.

What is Hedi’s request? How did you meet him？
A
Hedi saw us play at Burgerama festival in Southern California. He then approached us and asked us to write a surfy song for his next campaign. It had to be at least 15 minutes long.

How did you try to make these songs?
A
We wrote this song in one week and recorded it in 6 hours. We’re not sure how we were able to do it so quickly, because usually when writing a song you cannot control how fast and when you are going to write it. We got lucky.

What is the most difficult thing when you make this song?
A
The most difficult part about this song was trying to figure out how to be continuously loud and high energy in 15 minutes while not boring the listener.

Who is artist inspire to you?
A
This song was influenced by the philosophies of the great actor harry dean Stanton.

What your favorite band or artist is？
A
Oasis, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cure, Fidlar, The Vaccines, The Buzzcocks, The Beach Boys, The Ramones, The Monkees, The Clash, and Disney Soundtracks.

What is the theme of your fashion style?
A
Our fashion style is constantly changing. But right now, everything revolves around our hair, which is usually green, blue, or purple. We started wearing larger shirts and we tuck them in, most of us wear tight black jeans or light 501 jeans. It is a combination of northern / Southern California style that not many people have. We’re proud of it.
Hedi loved our hair. I have blue hair. Cole and I dyed our hair randomly when we were in Australia and we kept it because people were starting to like it and it was making us easy to recognize.

How did you feel in a show as a music composer and model?
A
It honestly felt so surreal. You put so much of your heart into writing songs that when big things happen you can’t help but feel emotional.We loved it.
Hedi is great. He’s a true artist and a very rare human being.

Saint Laurent Paris 2016年春夏のメンズコレクションにおいて、Hedi Slimaneはコンテポラリーなカリフォルニアのサーフミュージックカルチャーを最新のトレンドへと革新した。それと同時にこのコレクションは、Hedi自身のサーフカルチャーのドキュメントプロジェクトの集大成でもあった。2005年春夏のDior Hommeにおいて、カリフォルニアのカルチャーを本格的に取り上げたコレクションを発表。Dior Hommeを離れたあとは、LAに拠点を移し現地のユースを撮り続けてきた。その中でも、サーフカルチャーは主要なプロジェクトのひとつであった。その原点は、1988年のCOSTA DA CAPARICA（ポルトガル）のサーファーのドキュメントにまでさかのぼる。Hediが変わらずに取材を続けてきた、原点ともいえるプロジェクトである。
そんな息の長いサーフカルチャーの“今”をドキュメントしたのが、このコレクションである。Swimmersによる、たった６時間でレコーディングされたという、ハイエナジーなサーフミュージック。モデルが着ているのは、サンセットのパームツリーをあしらったテディジャケット、カートコバーンのサングラス、汚れた白いスニーカーなど。Rexx、the Garden、Beach partyそしてSwimmersなど、モデルの多くはミュージシャンだ。足取りは早く、波のように、次から次へとスタイルが流れでてくる。このコレクションの象徴は、ブルーやグリーンに染まった髪の色。このヘアはSwimmersからHediがインスパイアされたようだ。
Hediがサーフカルチャーに惹かれ続ける理由。それは、更新され続けるミュージックとアート、美しい肉体とアティテュードを持ったユースがいるからだろう。彼の探求する対象は変わらない。
大好きなロックミュージシャンのライブを見るように、僕らはただその雰囲気を楽しめばいい。そしてもし気に入れば、髪型や着こなし方を自分のスタイルに取り入れればいい。

The Saint Laurent Paris 2016 Spring/Summer men’s collection saw fashion designer Hedi Slimane innovate on contemporary Californian surf music culture to bring us the latest trends. This collection also represents the culmination of Hedi’s personal project documenting surf culture. It was with the announcement of the Dior Homme 2005 Spring/Summer collection that he first picked up on California culture in earnest. After leaving Dior Homme, he made Los Angeles his base for ongoing photography of the region’s youth. It was as a part of that work that surf culture came to be a major project for him. But the origins of this can be traced all the way back to his 1988 documentation of surfers in Costa da Caparica, Portugal. You could say this is a project Hedi has continued ever since then.
The “now” of this sustained documentation of surf culture is this collection. According to Swimmers, the high energy surf music soundtrack that accompanied the collection was recorded in just six hours. Models wore outfits like a teddy jacket decorated with sunset lit palm trees, with Kurt Cobain style sunglasses and dirty white sneakers. From Rexx the Garden twins, Beach party to Swimmers, many of the models are musicians. Their gait is fast, and like waves, they emerge one after another in a stream of styles.
A symbol of this collection is the models’ blue and green dyed hair. The inspiration for this hair appears to have been drawn from Swimmers.
Hedi continues to be attracted to surf culture. His motivation for this seems to be the ongoing innovation in surf culture’s music and art, and the youth of the culture, with their beautiful bodies and attitudes. The objective of his quest remains unchanged.
Hedi’s show is seeing the rock musicians we love performing live. We’d enjoy it just for the atmosphere. Then we’d also be pleased with seeing new hairstyles or ways to dress stylishly we could adopt.
