Pypyというバンドを紹介します。このバンドはSaint Laurent At The Palladium Collectionの音楽を作ったことで知られています。これはまたHedi Slimaneの最後のショーでもあります。このバンドのメンバーであるRoy Vがショーの曲である’She’s Gone’ や、このCollection、彼らのアルバムから彼ら自身についてこのブログのために語ってくれました。また、後半では以前紹介したこともあり、このショーに参加したミュージシャンを紹介いたします。PypyとHediの最後のショーをお楽しみください。
I introduce Pypy.This band is known by making music for Saint Laurent At The Palladium Collection.This is also Hedi Slimane’s final collection.This band’s member Roy V talked about show song ‘She’s Gone’ ,this collection,their album and themselves for my blog.And also I feature some musicians whom I had introduced on my blog in this show.Please enjoy Pypy and Hedi’s last show.

この作品で一番伝えたいことはどんなことですか？
A
無意識に（自然発生的）に曲を作っていったり、僕ら（メンバー）の歌詞を自由に関連づけていったところがいっぱいあって。僕はヒップホップのように曲を作りがちなんだよね。リズムがたくさんあって、その音楽の上に言葉やなんかを載せいくっていうような。一方、別のメンバーのAnnie-Claudeはとても音声学的に曲を作っていくんだよ。

Hediとはどのようにに出会いましたか？ また彼のリクエストは何でしたか？
A
僕らは最初、Lotte SelwoodというSaint Laurentのアクセサリーデザイナーから連絡をもらったんだ。記憶が正しければ、彼女がオフィスで僕らの曲を聴いていて、Hediがそれを気に入ってくれたみたいなんだ。
正直言って僕らは最初、モントリオール（訳注：カナダの最大都市。彼らもここの出身）のサンローランストリートにある、サンローランと呼ばれる中古品店から連絡があったと思ったんだ。僕だってもちろんSaint Laurentのラインは知ってたよ。でも、彼らが連絡してくれたとき、ブランドの名前から”Yves”をは外した事実に思いもよらなかったし。そのラインは、Saint Laurent Parisって呼ばれてるでしょ。でも、僕らが受け取ったのはSaint Laurentってあっただけで、それはちょうどモントリオールにある通りと一緒だったんだよ。
音楽についての指示を受け取った後は、僕らは名声のあるメゾンと取引していたと理解しただけだった。ちょっと自分達がバカのように感じたけれど、ワクワクしたし、すごく驚いたよ。

曲作りはどんなところにこだわっていますか？
A
Hedi Slimaneのショーのために、彼は前から存在している曲を選んだんだ（訳注：この曲は、Pagan Dayに収録されている）。だから僕らは、それを20分にリミックスするか、もしくは20分のバージョンで録音し直すか選ぶことができた。それで、Jean-Michel Coutuと一緒に録音することに決めたんだよ。
歌詞の”everything is turning obsolete（何もかもが、時代遅れになっていく）”は、ある解放運動の広告であったもので。僕らの別の曲にあった歌詞だったんだけど、このショーに完璧にハマっていたから入れたんだ。

曲がHediの最後のショーに使われてどのように感じましたか？
A
僕は彼がこの曲を使った理由のひとつは歌詞にあったんだなと感じたよ。Hediがメゾンから離れるタイミングで、歌詞がぴったりと合っていたんだ。
ショーはロックスターのファッションに向けた叙情詩のようだった。ちょうどDaivid Bowieがこの世を去ったタイミングでもあって、彼に向けての追悼であるようにも感じた。それだけでなく、ひとつの時代の終わりのようにもね。
ショーにはノスタルジーの感覚が明確にあった。僕らの音楽は、いくつものジャンルと時代の混沌といった感じだった。僕らはノイズ、パンク、ノーウェイヴ、ヒップホップそしてサイキミュージック、それらを、まるでサラダのように全てミックスしようとしたんだ。
ショーのためにLAに行ったことは、本当に魔法のような体験だったよ。ほとんど夢のように感じたほどさ。

この作品で一番伝えたいことはどんなことですか？
A
あらゆる種類のサウンドが重なり合い、混ざりあう時間の流れゆくままに、アートと音楽を自由に作れってね。自分自身のヴォイスを掴むんだってことでもある。すべての音楽のジャンル、楽しむこと、自分の気ままに、自分自身に挑戦すること、新しいコンセプト、ダンス、アートともに、そういった何もかもに挑戦しようってことさ。
政治とビジネスは不快に、醜悪に変わっていった。でもアートのための創造には美しさがまだ残っているんだ。
Pypyについて
Q
音楽を通して探求しているテーマはなんですか？
A
自由と楽しみ。
僕らはみんな古い友達なんだ。しょっちゅう一緒に出かけるわけじゃない。みんなそれぞれが自分の仕事やプロジェクトですごく忙しい。そこで、ジャムしたり遊んだりと一種に過ごす時間のためにPypyをひとつの手段として使っているんだよ。

なぜPypyをバンド名として選んだのですか？
A
数学の象徴（円周率の）パイ（Pi）とピタゴラス（Pythagoras）のオマージュから。
多くの数学的、科学的発見と同様に、音楽や天文学、医学における発見とコンセプトもまた、彼に帰せられるんだ。
意図的に（パイの）つづりを間違えて、さらに混乱するようにフランス語と英語の両方で言うようにしている。

どんな誰に影響を受けていますか？
A
アーティスティックな扇動者、ポエティックなテロリズム、アートを通して生きる人全て。
ダダイストやシューリリアリストに強く影響を受けながらも、世俗的な熱狂を見つけることからもインスパイアされる。
バンドのメンバーからも同様に。このプロジェクトのために、僕らお互いがミューズでもあるんだ。

Q
What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through She’s Gone?
A
There’s a lot of automatic writing and free association with our lyrics.
I tend to write more like you would a hip hop track (a lot of rhymes and I start with a text and mess with the flow over the music)
Annie-Claude on the other hand writes very phonetically.
Q
How did you meet him？ What is Hedi’s request?
A
We were initially contacted by Lotte Selwood who is an accessories designer at Saint Laurent. If I remember correctly she was playing our music in their office and Hedi really took to it.
To be honest we initially thought we had been contacted by a thrift store called Saint-Laurent since there is a Saint-Laurent street in Montreal.I knew the Saint Laurent line of course.But when they reached out
to us we didn’t think of the fact that they had dropped the “Yves” from the brand name. The line is called Saint Laurent Paris. But they had just written Saint Laurent and there is a street with that name in montreal
We only realized we were dealing with the prestigious fashion house after receiving the instructions for the music.
We felt a bit like idiots, but we were thrilled and our minds were blown.

And how did you try to make this song?
A
For Hedi Slimane’s show, he had chosen a preexisting track. So we could either remix it to 20 minutes or rerecord a 20 minute version. We chose to record a 20 minute version with Jean-Michel Coutu.
The lyrics “everything is turning obsolete” was an ad lib taken from another one of our songs but the lyrics fit the show perfectly.

How did you feel that this song had used Hedi’s last show?
A
I feel they use the song partly for its lyrics. Hedi was departing from the fashion company and the lyrics were fitting.
The show was somewhat of an ode to rockstar fashions. Bowie had just passed away and it seemed like a tribute to him but also an end of an era. There was definitely a sense of nostalgia in the show and our music is a bit of a clusterf*ck of genres and eras. We take from noise, punk , no wave, hip hop, garage and psych music and we try to mix it all up like a salad.
I went down to LA for the show which was truly a magical experience. It almost felt like a dream.

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through this LP?
A
Make art and music freely,,,,as time goes by all the types of sounds seem to overlap and mix with each other. Try to give yourself your own voice. Try all sorts of music genres, have fun, indulge yourself, challenge yourself with new concepts, dance…. HAVE FUN with art.
Politics and business have turned even more sour and ugly but there is still beauty in creation and art for art sake.

What is the theme you are looking for through making music?
A
FREEDOM & FUN.
We are all old friends and don’t always get to hang out. We’re all pretty busy with our own work and projects.So we use PYPY as a way to spend some time together, jam and joke around.
Q
Why did you choose Pypy as your band name?
A
It is supposed to be in reference to the mathematical symbol Pi and in homage to Pythagoras.
Many mathematical and scientific discoveries can be attributed to him as well as discoveries and concepts in the fields of music, astronomy and medicine.
We misspelled it on purpose and say it in both french and english to make the name even more confusing.

Who inspire you?
A
Artistic instigators, poetic terrorism, all those who live through their art.
We were very inspired by the Dadaists and the surrealists and are also inspired by finding the fantastic in the mundane.
We also inspire each other in the band. We are each others muses for the project.
