♪PROFILE♪

Lewis from Denmark and Chris from Ireland, who grew up together in Belgium, met in Paris again about three years ago and they restarted their collaboration. Joined by Julia from Finland and They formed Oracle Sisters. The debut single ‘Always’, which was released in 2018, attracted much attention not only because of the music but also as a movie-like music video on the theme of a fictional journey. Last year, they were selected as one of The NME 100: Essential new artists for 2019. Hedi Slimane also participated in their live performances and took pictures of them. The single ‘Asc.Scorpio’ was just released in March 2020.

Belgium（ベルギー）でともに育ったDenmark出身のLewisとIreland出身のChrisが、約3年前にParisで再会をはたし共作をリスタート。そこにFinland出身のJuliaが加わり、Oracle Sistersを結成。2018年リリースしたデビューシングル’Always’は、楽曲のよさのみならず、架空の旅をテーマにしたまるで映画のようなミュージックビデオで話題を集めた。昨年、彼らはthe UKの大手ロックメディアNMEが選ぶ新人100（The NME 100: Essential new artists for 2019）に選出され、今後UKでのプロモーションも本格化する予定。また、Hedi Slimaneも彼らのライブに参加し、彼らの撮影を敢行。2020年3月にはシングル’Asc.Scorpio’がリリースされたばかり。

Introducing the new work of Oracle Sisters, a very talented threesome band.

First, member Lewis is not only a musician but also a painter and art director for the band. On his Instagram you can see the delicate paintings he drew. Of course, he’s also a great musician and worked on Nikolai Frature(The Strokes) solo project , ‘Summer Moon’. Next, Chris is also a mathematician who uses music theory to create experimental songs. Julia, the last member to join the group, is a versatile musician who can sing songs and play guiars,drums and compose songs.

And all three members are beautiful! Julia is also active as a model. Her own fashion is also attractive as fashionable as Jane Birkin when she was young. Chris has been featured in Celine campaign. Hedi visited their live and started interacting with them. Hedi continues to support the band by using their song ‘I’m you’ on brand online sites and also providing them with brand outfits.

Oracle Sisters’ long-awaited new song is brighter than ever. At first I thought this song inspired a good old pop song. But actually this was inspired by A Tribe Called Quest, an American hip-hop group from the 80s and 90s. Perhaps they were conscious of the song ‘Electric Relaxation’. That’s because in a later interview, the bands said about lyrics ‘A fantasy that is real and electrified’. This new song has a fresh sound, with the bass being built on a drum machine and the combination of the iconic three harmony and reverb guitar.

People around the world are fed up with the effects of a global coronavirus infection. Even so, this song like a ray of sunshine makes us feel bright.

多才な三人組のバンド、Oracle Sistersの新作を紹介する。

まず、メンバーのLewisは絵描きでもあり、バンドのアートディレクションも務めている。彼のインスタグラムでは、彼が描いた繊細な絵画を見ることができる。もちろん、彼はミュージシャンとしても優秀で、彼はThe StrokesのNikolai Fratureのソロプロジェクト、Summer Moonに参加していた経験もあるほどだ。続いてChrisは、数学者でもあり、音楽理論を生かしながら、実験的な楽曲を制作する頭脳派である。そして最後にメンバーに加わった、紅一点のJuliaはドラム、ボーカル、そして楽曲制作もできる万能なミュージシャンだ。

そして三人とも美男美女！ Juliaはモデルとしても活躍中で、彼女自身のファッションは、Jane Birkinのようにおしゃれなことも魅力だ。ChrisはCelineのキャンペーンに起用されたこともある。Hediが彼らのライヴを訪れ、彼らと交流が始まったという。Hediは彼らの’I’m you’という曲をブランドのオンラインサイトで起用したり、そしてブランドの衣装を彼らに提供することで、バンドをサポートし続けている。

Oracle Sisters待望の新曲は、これまでになく明るい楽曲。彼ららしい古き良きポップスのリバイバルかと思いきや、A Tribe Called Quest（80-90年代に活躍したアメリカのヒップホップグループ）からインスパイアを受けた楽曲だという。彼らが意識したのは、おそらく’Electric Relaxation’という曲だと思う。というのは、後半のインタビューにて、’（歌詞は）A fantasy that is real and electrified.（現実と電化されたファンタジー。）’ と語っているので。この曲は、まずドラムマシンでベースが構築され、アイコンでもある３人のハーモニー、リバーブ（残響）のかかったギターを組み合わされたことで、新鮮なサウンドになっている。

世界的なコロナウイルス感染症の影響で、世界中の人々がうんざりするような状況。そんな中、一筋の太陽の光のようなこの曲は、私たちを明るい気持ちにしてくれる。

それからLewisがディレクションを手がけたミュージックビデオにも注目を。’Filmed as a lucid travelogue on first U.K headline tour’をテーマに、伝説のBob DylanのBootleg tour filmをインスピレーションを得ながら制作された映画のようなドキュメンタリー風の作品だ。

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through this?
A
Asc. Scorpio is a song to communicate freedom and power, it is like waking up on the dark side of the moon with a sunburn.
(Note:’Asc’ is astrological term expresses innate temperament.)

How did you try to make this song for that?
A
We were listening to a Tribe Called Quest and use drum machines and bass to write the song. The lyrics are images of a world in between dream and nightmare. A fantasy that is real and electrified.
Covert art is by Lewis in the band and uses a photo booth image of a scorpion that stung him in Jamaica.
The music video is a documentary of a tour in England and Scotland, traveling on the train and concerts from the British Museum with Indian dancers.

Who inspires you in these days?
A
These days we are inspired by painters and poets like Gauguin and Rimbaud.
We listen to a lot of classical music like Chopin and read Japanese novels. We like Hayao Miyazaki and the book ´In Praise or Shadows’ by Junichiro Tanizaki.
We hope to see Japan some day and do many Onsen in Yakushima!

A
僕らはその頃A Tribe Called Questを聞いてたこともあって、ドラムマシンとベースを使ってこの曲を書いてみた。歌詞は、夢と悪夢の間の世界のイメージだね。現実と電化されたファンタジー。
カバーアートはLewisが手がけた。ジャマイカで彼を刺したサソリの写真ブースの画像を使用しているんだ。
ミュージックビデオは、インディアンダンサーと一緒に大英博物館から電車やコンサートで旅行するという、イングランドとスコットランドのツアーのドキュメンタリーなんだ。

A
最近では、画家のゴーギャンや詩人のランボーからインスピレーションを受けている。ショパンのようなクラシック音楽もたくさん聴くし、日本の小説を読んでいる。宮崎駿と谷崎潤一郎の’陰翳礼讃（いんえいらいさん）’の本が好き。いつか日本に行き、屋久島でたくさんの温泉を楽しみたいな！
