Jeffertitti is a musician from Los Angeles California . He’s been a lot of bands and had a group called Jeffertitti’s Nile since 2009. During that time He played in his friend’s bands & produce music for other people in his studio as well, like Shannon Lay, Jonathan Wilson, JJUUJJUU etc. He’ve also been in recorded and toured with the bands Father John Misty, Corners, Sextile, Suki Waterhouse etc.
He also started a new band called The Entire Universe which he will be releasing a new album for soon. Then currently he is working on a new solo album.

Jeffertittiはカリフォルニア州ロサンゼルス出身のミュージシャン。これまでたくさんのバンドを経験し、2009年からはJeffertitti’s Nileと呼ばれるグループを主催。その間も彼は、Shannon Lay、Jonathan Wilson、JJUUJJUUなど、他の人々のために演奏で参加したり、彼のスタジオでプロデュースもしている。また、John Misty、Corners、Sextile、Suki Waterhouseなどのレコーディングやツアーに参加したこともある。
彼はThe Entire Universeと呼ばれる新しいバンドを始めており、まもなく新しいアルバムをリリースする予定。そして現在、新しいソロアルバムの制作に取り組んでいる。

Jeffertitti is a versatile person. He has participated in a number of bands and has supported and produced musicians. He also has a strong connection with the fashion industry, as typified by the recent Gucci Beauty campaign. He is also a DJ and participates in many celebrity parties. His own psychedelic fashion and makeup is also quite eye-catching.

In short, he contrasts with the so-called cool rock musicians. He will never do shoegaze. Conversely, we can easily imagine that he would talk to people with looking at their eyes. He has talents as a manager to take on business in any genre, such as music or fashion, if he is interested.

He is also sociable and has many friends. He has acquired high communication skills through the experience of many bands. He says like that how to make soomthly works is “try to avoid struggles”. He is loved by people because of his conscious kindness.

But the music, business, and communication skills mentioned so far are not what he has built for superficial success. The reason is much deeper. Religious and occult motifs are scattered throughout his music and artwork. In fact, we can even feel the grand universe from his work. However, that is even not a correct explanation.

By the way, he recently released Fleetwood Mac cover ‘Dreams’ which is his old favorite song. And it’s a song he’s played live since his separation from his lover. He continued to seek the best recordings by playing the song, changing the tempo when DJing, listening to other covers, or imagining the composer’s feelings. This cover is the result of those attempts.

A momentum performance by the original is great, but his cover is deeper taste. It’s like that a Canadian pianist Glenn Herbert Gould recorded Bach’s Goldberg Variations in his middle age, and it is felt the bitterness and weight of life compared to his earlier recordings. And listners can feel that Jeffertitti loves this song. As a result, beyond cover and becoming his own music, we also feel the hardships and joys of his life through this cover. Of course, that is due to his overwhelming musical skills and sense.

From the end of last year, He started a project to cover classic songs of the past such as Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones. This ‘Dreams’ cover is positioned in its latest release. He is not a difficult person. He is the same kind of person who loves Rock and who needs them just like me and you.

Jeffertittiは多才な人物である。これまで多くのバンドに参加し、ミュージシャンのサポートやプロデュースも行ってきた。また、最近のGucci Beautyへのキャンペーンに代表されるように、彼はファッション業界と深いつながりを持っている。DJとしても活躍しており、セレブの集う多くのパーティに参加している。彼自身のサイケデリックなファッションやメイクもかなり目を引く。

つまり、彼はいわゆるクールなロックミュージシャンとは対照的なのだ。シューゲイズ（靴を見つめる）なんて絶対しないだろう。逆に彼は、人の目を見てしっかりと話す方だろうと容易に想像がつく。自分が興味を持てば、音楽やファッションなどジャンルを問わず、ビジネスにもチャレンジしていく経営者としての才能もある。

彼は社交的でもあり、たくさんの友達がいる。彼は多くのバンドの経験を通じて高いコミュニケーションスキルを身につけたのだ。制作を上手く進めるコツは「揉め事を避けようとすること」といった旨を語っている。彼は意識的な優しさで人々に愛されている。

ただしこれまで述べた、音楽やビジネス、コミュニケーションのスキルは、表層的な成功のために彼が築いたものではない。その理由はもっと心の深いところにある。彼の音楽やアートワークからは、宗教的、オカルト的なモチーフが散見される。実際、私達は彼の作品から壮大な宇宙を感じることさえできる。しかしながら、それすら正しい説明にはならない。

最近、彼がリリースしたFleetwood Macのカバー’Dream’は、彼の昔からのフェイバリットの曲だ。そして、彼がかつての恋人との別れた時期からライヴでも演奏してきた曲でもある。彼は、この曲を実際に演奏したり、DJをする際テンポを変えたり、他の方のカバーを聴くこと、あるいは作曲者の心情を想像することで、最もベストなレコーディングを模索し続け、結実したのが本作だ。

オリジナルの勢いのあるパフォーマンスは素晴らしいのだが、彼のカバーはもっと深みがある。まるで、カナダ出身のピアニスト、グレングールドが中年になってバッハのゴールドベルド変奏曲をにレコーディングしたのものが、若い頃に録音したものと比べて、人生の苦味や重みが感じとれるのと似ている。Jeffertittiのカバーには、切実なまでのこの曲への愛がある。結果、カバーを超え、彼自身の音楽となっている、我々は、この歌を通して、彼の人生の苦労や喜びもまた感じられる。そしてもちろんそれを実現するのは、彼の圧倒的な音楽技術とセンスによるものだ。

昨年末より彼はBeach BoysやThe Rolling Stonesなど往年の名曲をカバーするプロジェクトをスタート。この’Dreams’のカバーはその最新作に位置づけられる。彼は難しい人ではない。ロックを切実なまでに愛し、ロックを必要とする私やあなたと同じ種類の人間なのだ。

What are the themes you are exploring through making music?
A
I love that you said ‘exploring’ because creating music has always felt that way to me. There are no limits on the sounds I fall in love with. Can be any genre, as long as it touches my soul. It seems like I’m always searching for sounds that excite me & hopefully I can translate that feeling and passion to other people, through recordings and live performances.

Who inspires you?
A
Aside from the vast landscape of all the inspiring music out there, I’m really inspired by old cinema. A friend recently showed me this beautiful film called ‘Funeral Parade of Roses’ by a Japanese director called Toshio Matsumoto. I love to watch movies on silent while I’m writing songs.

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through this?
A
Fleetwood Mac is one of my all time favorite groups & I’ve been performing this song live for years now. I remember the first time I covered it, I was moved to tears while singing. I had just gone through a break-up and was feeling very emotional, so the lyrics really resonated with me. I also DJ a lot and for a while I got really into slowing records down to see how they grooved at a new tempo. The music of the late 70s and 80s usually sounds better to me when slowed down. Probably because the artists were taking way too much cocaine back then! Anyways, I wanted to emulate that slowed down feeling, so I recorded the song on tape and then slowed it down. It seems to make things groove in this impossibly chill way like that.

How did you try to make songs for that?
A
The main rhythm & vocal tracks were recorded live in my studio as a trio onto analog tape with the bassist Ignacio Gonzalez and drummer Michael Villiers of my old band Jeffertitti’s Nile with me on guitar and vocals. Then I slowed the tape down and added my good friend Modeste Cobian on flutes. There’s another version of the song that I’ve heard before. I can’t remember who made it, but it was a couple ( husband and wife I think) .Their version is super simple and mellow compared to the original. So I think I was partally inspired that too and trying to achieve something like that.　My other friend Adam Rasmussen from the band Gardens & Villa” came over and we tracked some synthesizers. My friend Clementine Creevy from Cherry Glazerr used to live with me, so one day her and I went down to the studio and did some group backing vocals for the track. It was mixed by Joshua Rouah in New York through his Electrodyne console. The cover art was shot on film by Remy Holwick near Newport Beach, California. I flipped the image upside down because it feels a little more disorienting and fluid to me that way.

A
君が’探求する’と言ったのはすごくいいと思う、僕にとって音楽を作る時にいつも感じていることを言い表しているからなんだ。僕が恋する音に制限はなくって。 魂に触れる限り、どんなジャンルだってかまわない。いつだって僕はワクワクするような音を探しているみたいなんだ。そして願わくば、レコーディングとライヴパフォーマンスを通して、そんな感情と情熱を他の人にも伝えらえることができたらなと思っているよ。

誰からインスピレーションを受けますか？
A
刺激的な音楽という広大な風景を以外では、古い映画にとても影響を受けている。友達が最近、松本俊夫という日本の監督による’薔薇の葬列’という美しい映画を見せてくれた。曲を書いている間は、無音で映画を見るのが好きだね。

この曲を通してリスナーに伝えたい最も重要なことは何ですか？
A
Fleetwood Macは大好きなグループの1つだし、この曲は何年もライヴで演奏しているんだ。初めてカバーした時には、歌いながら涙を流すほどだった。（彼女と）別れたばかりで、非常に感情的だったし、歌詞に本当に共感したんだ。あと、DJとしてもたくさんこの曲を流していて、レコードをスローダウンさせて、新しいテンポでグルーブがどのように変化するかをしばらく試してたんだ。70年代後半と80年代後半の音楽は大抵、速度が落ちたときの方が良く聞こえるんだ。おそらくアーティストが当時あまりにも多くのドラッグを摂取しすぎていたからかも！ 　とにかく、ゆっくりとした感じを表現したかったので、テープに曲を録音してからスローダウンしました。このように、ありえないほどゆったりさせる方法で楽曲にグルーヴが生まれるみたいなんだ。

そのために曲をどのように作ろうとしましたか？
A
メインのリズム＆ボーカルトラックは、以前のバンドJeffertitti’s NileのベーシストIgnacio GonzalezとドラマーMichael Villiers、そして僕がギターとヴォーカルで、アナログテープにトリオとしてライヴ録音した。それからテープの速度を落とし、フルートに友達のModeste Cobianに協力してもらったんだ。あと、以前この曲の別のバージョンを聴いたことがあって。誰が作ったのか思い出せないんだけど、カップル（夫婦）かなってオリジナルと比べると、とてもシンプルでメロウなんだ。だからそのバージョンに部分的に刺激を受けていて、そのようなことを成し遂げたいという気持ちもあったと思う。Gardens＆Villaのもう一人の友人、アダム・ラスムッセンがやってきて、シンセサイザーを加えてくれた。あと、Cherry GlazerのClementine Creevyと一緒に住んでいたので、ある日、彼女と僕はスタジオに行って、バッキングヴォーカルを歌い入れしたんだ。そして、ニューヨークのJoshua Rouahがエレクトロダインのコンソールを使ってミックスしてくれた。カバーアートは、カリフォルニア州ニューポートビーチ近くで、Remy Holwick がフィルムで撮影したもの。画像の向きを逆さまにしたのは、その方が方向感覚を失われて、まるで流れているように感じられると思ったからなんだ。
