Danny Lomas is a model from Glasgow, Scotland, best known for his work on the Celine shows and campaigns. He also makes music as a rapper under the name Danny Skell. He has just released a new song ‘SKell ULtra’ in June 21. He is currently working on an ep.

♪INTRODUCTION♪
Danny Skell is a rapper from Glasgow, Scotland, who also works as a model and has participated in Celine’s ‘The Dancing Kid’ and ‘Teen Knight Poem’. These were also linked to Danny’s fashion style. Specifically, it was a mix of American rapper-inspired street fashion, traditional the UK punk style, and a slight gothic mood. In other words, the two collections were also a document of current youth fashion like Danny.
Danny Skell says that he used to be unsure of himself, but the American rapper’s music encouraged him to take charge of his life. He took a step forward and started his own career as a rapper, releasing singles since 2020. The songs Danny writes have a kind of earnestness that only someone who has been saved by music can bring out. In this final installment of articles featuring Danny, I will be interviewing him about his music.

スコットランドのグラスゴーに住むラッパーDanny Skell。彼はモデルとしての仕事もしており、Celineの‘The Dancing Kid’や ‘Teen Knight Poem’にも参加している。これらは、Dannyのファッションスタイルともリンクしていた。具体的には、アメリカのラッパーに影響を受けたストリートファッション、伝統的なthe UKのパンクスタイル、そして若干のゴシックなムードをミックスしたものである。つまり、２つのコレクションもまた、Dannyに代表される今のユースのファッションのドキュメントでもあったということだ。
過去には自分に自信が持てなかったというDanny Skellだが、アメリカのラッパーの曲によって励まされながら、人生を切り開いていったという。彼は一歩踏み出し、彼自身もラッパーとしての活動を始め、2020年よりシングルをリリースしている。Dannyが作る曲は、音楽に救われたことのある人間にしか、出すことのできない種類の切実さがある。Dannyをフィーチャーした連載投稿、最終回は彼の音楽についてのインタビューをお届けする。

What is it that you want to express through your outfits?
A
Through the clothing I wear I want to represent my interests and who I am. I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and wear everything I like without caring at all what other people think.

What is your outfits theme for this summer?
A
Punk dirtbag. I think lots of tank tops, black jeans, chains kinda grungy stuff. I like Vivienne Westwood so I bought a Seditionaries T-shirt and some jewellery from her. I feel like she made the coolest punk clothes there are. On the other side I like streetwear too, so a lot of hoodies and some bright colours here and there to switch it up 🙂

How was the work with Hedi Slimane?
A
Working with Hedi is a pleasure. I’m very thankful for the opportunities and the friends that I’ve made through working with Celine. To be able to do campaigns for Celine was something I never thought would happen so I’m very lucky.

What are the themes you are exploring through making music?
A
I just enjoy making music and pulling thoughts out from my head and putting them into songs. I want to make music that can make people feel themselves. I hope that my music can have the ability to change moods.

Why did you choose Danny Skell as your rapper name?
A
Skells just a shorter version of skeleton and I’m skinny and bony and I kinda look like a skeleton. Also I think it’s kinda gothic but not too much which is good. I’m gonna change my name just to Skell soon.

Who inspires you?
A
Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vertare my two favourite artists, their music made me confident in myself at a time where I didn’t feel good about myself and still does to this day. I’m also surrounded by musicians in my friends and family like Apollo and Sadsong. My brother is a session drummer and shows me a lot of the music that inspires me and motivates me to learn more about making music.

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to listeners through ‘Skell ULtra’（single）?
A
I just want people to feel psyched up when they listen to ‘SKell ULtra’. There’s a couple of ‘The Simpsons’ references in the song and some ‘Dragon Ball Z’ ones too so hopefully it’ll make people think of those shows. The song comes in very hard and then relaxes towards the end. Sadsong produced it and it’s one of my favourite beats I’ve made a song on.
I plan on releasing my first ep by the end of the year which has a bit of a different sound. I’m gonna release some singles from the EP soon so keep an eye out for that.

A
着ている服を通して、自分の趣味や自分自身を表現したいと思っている。自分にとって快適な領域で満足せず、自分自身に挑戦していきたい。それから、人の目を気にせず、好きなものを何でも着たいんだ。

この夏のコーディネートのテーマは何ですか？
A
パンクダートバッグ。タンクトップ、ブラックジーンズ、チェーンなど、グランジなものが多いね。Vivienne Westwoodが好きなので、Seditionaries のTシャツとジュエリーを買ったこともあるんだ。彼女が作ったパンクの服は最高にクールだと思う。その一方で、ストリートウエアも好きなので、たくさんのフーディを着たり、明るい色を取り入れて、気分転換をしているよ 🙂

A
Hediとの仕事は嬉しかったよ。Celineとの仕事を通じて得られた機会や友人にとても感謝している。Celineのキャンペーンに携われることは、自分でも想像していなかったことなので、かなりラッキーだと思う。

音楽制作を通じて探求しているテーマは何ですか？
A
音楽を作ることが好きで、自分の頭の中にある考えを引き出して、それを曲にしている。聴いた人が自分自身を感じられるような音楽を作りたいと思っているよ。僕の音楽で、気分を変えることができるようになればいい、と思っているんだ。

ラッパーの名前にDanny Skellを選んだのはなぜですか？
A
Skellsはスケルトンを短くしたもの。僕は痩せていて、骨ばっているので、なんとなくスケルトン（ガイコツ）に見えるので。それと、ちょっとゴシックな感じもするけど、やりすぎではないところがいいと思う。近いうちに名前をスケルに変えようと思っているんだ。

誰にインスパイアされていますか？
A
Playboi CartiとLil Uzi Vertの二人は大好きなアーティストだ。彼らの音楽は、自分自身に対して良いと感じられなかった時代に、自分に自信を持たせてくれたし、今でもそれは続いている。それから、友人や家族の中にも、ApolloやSadsongなどのミュージシャンがいるんだ。僕の弟はセッションドラマーで、音楽をたくさん見せてくれるし、それは僕にインスピレーションを与え、音楽制作をもっと学びたいというモチベーションを上げてくれるんだよ。

‘Skell ULtra’を通して、リスナーに一番伝えたいことは何ですか？
A
この曲を聴いた人には、元気になってもらえたらいいな。曲中には、 ‘ザ・シンプソンズ’や‘ドラゴンボールZ’を引用した部分がいくつかあるので、それらの番組を思い浮かべてもらえればとも思っている。この曲は、かなりハードな感じで始まって、最後にはリラックスした雰囲気になっていく。Sadsongがプロデュースしたこの曲は、今まで作った曲の中でもお気に入りのビートの一つなんだ。
年内には、ちょっと変わったサウンドの初のEPをリリースする予定。近いうちに、その作品からシングルをリリースする予定なので、楽しみに待っていてね。
