メンバーは、普通のロック好きなお兄ちゃん達に見える。見た目もLAっぽいカジュアルな格好で。EPのジャケットもDIYな感じで。楽曲の制作は、リフやアイディアを元にバンドで自然発生的に作っているようだ。プロダクションは、ボーカル、ギター、ベース、ドラムそれぞれの音がしっかり聞こえるように作られている。ちょうどThe StrokesのIs This Itのように。バンドとして自然体を志向しているのだ。このバンドの強みは、ギターのリフにあると思う。そしてそのリフを生かすサウンドも。ドラムやベースがリフを引き立て、ボーカルが煽る。個人的には、彼らがこのリフを生かし、長いバラードを作ったとしたらLed ZeppelinのStairway To Heavenに匹敵する名曲ができるんじゃないかと思う。それをHediがショーで使ってくれたら最高だ。そして、最新のEPではこのリフに加えて、ハードなアルペジオを楽しめる。まずはRIPPERのイントロを聴いてほしい。細くて背が高く、リフを生み出すJamse Hurstに、カリスマ性があるのを僕は進んで認める。けれど、彼らの魅力はあくまでバンド全体のサウンドである。それはKurt CobainやJim Morrisonといった一人の人間を通してのものではない。正直に話すと、僕は彼らがちょっと怖い。EPのジャケットは、子供が悪魔の格好をしているし、爆発の映像が流れるツアー告知といったビジュアルもそう。でもそれ以上に、オーガニックなサウンドとリズムの反復が、僕に何かを知覚させる。それはかつて、Led Zeppelinがバンドとして立ち上げたロックの亡霊と対峙しているような気分だ。あるいは太古の昔、土着的な祭典において、人々が感じたものかもしれない。すべてを数値化することのできるデジタルエイジにおいて、彼らは感覚でしか捉えられない何かを召喚する。EPの中で、もっともそれを感じさせるのがJunkyard Dogだ。彼らの新境地でもあるミディアムテンポのロックは、どこまでもオーガニックで優しいものだ。それなのに、それだからこそというべきか、この曲を聴いていると、彼らの４人の奏でる音が、もくもくと白い煙へと変わり、やがてゆらゆらと笑うドクロが浮かんでいるように見える。

The members come across as typical rock loving older brothers. Appearance-wise, they have an LA-like casual feel about them. Their EP’s jacket also carries a DIY vibe. Their music seems to have been created spontaneously, arising out of riffs and ideas. The production is such that the sound of the vocals, guitar, bass, and drums are each clearly audible. Just like in Is This It by The Strokes. This is the natural form the band aims for.
I think a particular strength of this band is their guitar riffs and how they take advantage of them. The drums and bass complement the riffs while the vocals set them aflame. Personally, I feel that by leveraging riffs like these, if they were to make a long ballad they could make make a masterpiece to rival Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. If Hedi were to create a show that made use of it it would be incredible. And in their latest EP, as well as riffs, you can also enjoy hard arppegios. To start with, I would like you to listen to the intro of Ripper.
Slender and tall, riff producing James Hurst exhibits a charisma that I willingly accept. That said, in the end their real appeal is the whole band’s sound. Whether it’s Kurt Cobain or Jim Morrison, such appeal is never actually comes through just the one person.
Honestly speaking, I find them a little scary. The EP jacket features a child dressed as a devil and their tour announcement video conveys images of explosions. But more than that, there’s something in myself that I perceive through the repetition of organic sounds and rhythms. It’s a feeling like Led Zeppelin are being confronted with the ghosts of rock launched as a band. Or perhaps like how people felt in ancient times during indigenous celebrations. In a digital age where everything can be quantified, what they summon is something that the senses cannot quite capture.
In the EP it’s Junkyard Dog that conjures this feeling most strongly. While medium tempo rock is new ground for them, it is utterly and organically graceful. And yet, it is really for this reason that when listening to this song, hearing the sound of the four of them playing, there’s silently a shift to white smoke, and you soon get the feeling that floating there, is a slowly swaying, laughing skull.

Ripper（EP）で一番伝えたいことはどんなことですか？
A
楽しむこと。そして誰からもクソを受け取らないようにすることさ。

そのためにどこにこだわっていますか？
A
僕らはいつでも、作曲の過程を有機的にやってくことにしている。たいてい誰かがスタジオに、ギターのリフやアイディアをもちこんで来て、そっからみんな揃って組み立てていく感じだよ。EPのアートワークは古い35mmスライドとコンセプトを手で描いたもの。イメージを大事にしている。というのも、イメージは楽しい雰囲気、それと同時にシリアスさも表現できるから。それはまた、レコードの音楽を通して聞こえるものでもある。

音楽を通じて探求しているテーマは何ですか？
A
さっき話したことと、スマイルエモーションだね。

A
The WhoがBeach Partyって使ってたことから。

僕らは特にファッションのスタイルは持ってない。もし僕らがファッションについて考えてばかりいたら、音楽を作る時間なんてないだろうね。

What is the most important thing that you want to communicate to your fan through ?
A
Have fun and try not to take shit from anybody.

For that, how did you form this work ?
A
We always try to keep the writing process organic. Usually somebody will come into the studio with a riff or idea and then we all build around it. The artwork is made up of old 35mm slides and hand drawn concepts. We chose the image because it represents playful yet serious at the same time. Which is heard thru the music on this record.

What is the theme you are looking for through music?
A

Why did you choose beach party as your band name?
A
We chose “Beach Party” cause “The Who” was taken…

What artists inspire you?
A
The kinks, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana , The cramps, Ty Segall and classic psych garage bands and punk surf rock.

What is the theme of your fashion style?
A
We don’t have a particular fashion style and if we spent to much time thinking of one we wouldn’t have anytime to make music.
